Godmanchester Rovers’ good run continued thanks to an outstanding second half performance at FC Peterborough. Rovers welcomed back Matty Allan and Andre Williams but Scott Callaghan missed the game because of the head injury sustained in Saturday’s win against Hucknall Town.
FC Peterborough dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead when Jamie Short sliced a dangerous cross past his own keeper Jack Mason. Goddy struggled to contain the home side and Mohammed Mhamdi was a constant threat down the left. Despite their pressure, they couldn’t stretch their lead and Jack Mason made a series of saves to keep the half time score to 1-0.
Manager Seb Hayes was forced to make changes and they certainly paid off. After 54 minutes Zane Campbell slalomed down the left side, put in a wonderful cross and Matty Allan finished well at the far post. Five minutes later Ed Randerson skipped through several tackles, won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and Andre Williams curled in a superb shot to put Goddy ahead. Man of the match Jamie Mastropierro, Ethan Moffat-Gibbs and Ben Tait all put in courageous second half performances and Goddy held on to claim the win.
Atherstone Town (Home) - Back to Back wins

Godmanchester Rovers continued their excellent run of form last Saturday with a home win against joint league leaders Atherstone Town. Defender Scott Callaghan was missing again because of concussion protocols following his injury in the game against Hucknall Town and Ethan Moffatt-Gibbs started after his excellent performance from the bench against FC Peterborough.
The visitors showed their pedigree in the first half and could easily have gone ahead before the break. Jamie Short made a heroic goal line clearance and goalkeeper Jack Mason commanded his penalty area with a series of confident catches. Rovers were undoubtedly the happier team at the half time break, came out strongly in the second half but Atherstone were thwarted once again by keeper Jack Mason when he saved with his legs.
The deadlock was broken after 73 minutes. Goddy captain Craig Gillies chased down a long ball, capitalised on some defensive indecision and cleverly lobbed the ball over the stranded keeper to put his team ahead. With full time approaching, both teams had chances but Goddy clinched the three points with only five minutes remaining. First half substitute Harry Biggs won possession near the corner flag, wriggled free of a couple of tackles on the goal line and crossed invitingly for Matty Allan to put the game beyond the visitors.
Next up for Goddy is another home game; this time against in-form Desborough Town.
Desborough Town (Home) - Godmanchester Rovers make it five in a row

Godmanchester Rovers welcomed in-form and joint league leaders Desborough Town to Bearscroft Lane last Saturday. Manager Seb Hayes made two changes to his starting line up from the win against Atherstone Town as his side looked to continue their impressive recent run.
Both sides started well. Matty Allan almost put Rovers ahead after three minutes after good work on the left by Zane Campbell but were fortunate not to go behind when goalkeeper Jack Mason could only stand and watch as a lob sailed over his head, hit the crossbar and almost crossed the line before being scrambled away. The home side continued to press and were rewarded after 14 minutes.
Matty Allan made an excellent run down the right before releasing Harry Biggs who put in a wonderful cross and captain Craig Gillies did the rest for his fifth goal in five games. The captain doubled his team’s lead after 30 minutes. Andre Williams switched from his usual position on the left and somehow put in a cross from a tight position on the right which his captain tapped in at the far post. It was important not to concede before half time and Rovers defended well to give themselves an excellent platform for the second half.
The visitors responded well to being two behind and continued to press down the left. Alfie-Ray Turner and Jamie Short stood up to the pressure before Desborough finally got the ball into the net after 58 minutes. The celebrations were cut short by an offside flag from assistant referee Neil Arthur and manager Seb Hayes immediately made a change: Ed Randerson replaced Harry Biggs in a positive move to try and put the game out of reach. Desborough were a constant threat and should have got back in the game with 10 minutes to go but Oliver Anderson shot high and wide when it was easier to score.
In an end-to-end finale, both teams had chances: Matty Allan missed two excellent opportunities to put the game beyond the visitors and keeper Jack Mason pulled off a magnificent save to deny Desborough a lifeline with five minutes to go. Rovers held on and now take their excellent form on the road with games against Moulton FC and FC Stratford.
