It has been a long time in the making but Godmanchester Rovers FC is weeks away from opening its brand new 3G Artificial Turf Pitch (ATP)
Belgian contractors LANO/CLS commenced work this week on the final phase of the project - laying the shock pad, carpet and infill that makes up a 3rd generation artificial turf pitch. It is anticipated that the facility will be open before the end of this month, but it is now dependant on the weather holding as this final phase of the project can be held up particularly due to any prolonged spells of inclement wet weather.
Without any real formal marketing or advertising, the demand for the training slots during the week has seen Godmanchester Sports Lettings Ltd taking a significant amount of provisional bookings, especially during peak times in midweek.

A spokesperson was quoted as saying, “demand has exceeded our initial expectations. Through our partners at the Football Foundation, Huntingdonshire FA and Huntingdonshire District Council, we were aware that latent demand was high and this has certainly proven to be the case.
Provisionally we are close to capacity at peak times between Monday and Thursday, and we are now working with other clubs and partners to fill some of the off peak slots. There are literally a few prime time slots available during the week but we expect those to go quickly as soon as we can confirm a handover date.”
The 3G ATP will be open 7 days a week as will the clubhouse which houses a fully stocked bar, kitchen serving hot and cold food all accompanied by TNT Sports showing Premier League and European Football.
Prior to opening a brand new booking portal will be available for individuals or groups to book casual sessions on the pitch with enquiries for block bookings going through
For the community of Godmanchester and the surrounding District this will be a welcome addition to allow hundreds of participants to experience a quality facility and an all year round training and match venue.
