Work began this week on the new 3G artificial turf pitch (ATP) at Bearscroft Lane. A prolonged period of funding application process through the Football Foundation was finally ratified earlier in the year with £1M being granted towards the cost of a £1.3M project.

Support for the delivery of the pitch has been positive and various contributions in terms of financial, usage agreements and delivery assistance has come from partners such as Hunts FA, Huntingdonshire District Council, MM Flowers, Cambridge United, Norwich City, Huntingdon Stags RFU and St Ives RFU amongst others.

The benefits to the community will be far reaching with planned programming across a variety of groups and sports will be able to access all weather training and matches 12 months of the year. A varied prgramme is currently being drafted with local teams booking slots for training, whilst work with local professional clubs, Hunts FA, Huntingdonshire District Council and other organisations will see activities such as Walking Football, Just Play (casual recreational football), Wildcats (girls), elite coaching and disability sessions delivered across the week as well as competitve games at a weekend.

Work will continue into the autumn with the weather key to progress and therefore the length of time the project will take to complete. It is anticipated that the pitch will be ready for play before the winter period and the club is currently taking expressions of interest in booking slots. As soon as the contractor is able to update on provisional completion dates then it wil be possible to confirm bookings.3G start
