Godmanchester Rovers and St Neots Town set for FA Cup battle

Manager Ollie Drake insists the David Wilson Homes Ground is the place to be tomorrow (Saturday) as Godmanchester Rovers take on St Neots Town in a mouth-watering FA Cup clash.

The local rivals do battle in the preliminary round of the famous competition, 3pm, with the bragging rights and almost £3,000 in prize money at stake.

Godmanchester Rovers off and running thanks to FA Cup success

Godmanchester Rovers kick-started their season by earning FA Cup success last Sunday.

Ollie Drake's side made progress in the famous competition courtesy of a 3-2 triumph at Northampton outfit ON Chenecks in the extra preliminary round.

And the Rovers chief was delighted to see his side prevail after suffering back-to-back defeats in their opening two Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division matches of the new campaign.

"It was all about the result on Sunday," said Drake. "And I wasn't too worried about how we got it."

Losing start for Godmanchester Rovers as they don’t their chances

Drake saw his side beaten 2-1 at newly-promoted Swaffham Town - the reigning First Division North champions - in a Saturday curtain-raiser.

Rovers fell behind after just three minutes but levelled early in the second half as James Hall grabbed the first goal of his latest spell with the club.

But Drake's men were made to pay for allowing a number of other chances to go begging as Swaffham struck again midway through the second period to clinch the points.

Ollie Drake is not a happy man.

There were no bold statements or big predictions from the Godmanchester Rovers boss on the eve of the new Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division season. Quite the opposite in fact.

Rather than talking up his side's chances of bettering their fourth and third positions of the past two campaigns to challenge for promotion, Drake instead reflected on the frustrations of a difficult summer at the David Wilson Homes Ground.

It's been a season to remember after all, says Godmanchester Rovers boss

There been many ups and down but club end the season with two trophies.

It's been a season full of highs and lows, but manager Ollie Drake believes it will be one Godmanchester Rovers remember for all the right reasons.

From seeing their Eastern Counties Premier title challenge fade late on to being kicked out of the last 16 of the FA Vase for fielding an ineligible player, there’s been plenty of heartache along the way.
