Saturday 19th March 2016 – Thurlow Nunn Premier Division

Thetford Town 0 Goddy Rovers 4

Goals: Luke Brown 2, Charlie Bowen, Mike Hyem

With 9 league wins on the spin we looked to extend a club record in this league against a typically spirited home side after Saturday’s postponement.

Back in August we ran out 8-0 winners after Town had a player dismissed after 15 seconds for a professional foul and penalty. We knew that with the bumpy pitch and the home side scrapping for their lives that it would be anything but easy.

In the opening 2 minutes Luke Brown found himself 6 yards out as the ball dropped to him, I think we were all expecting the net to bulge as Browney has been in incredible goal scoring form. However, he choked the shot when scoring seemed easier and the chance went.

The home sides intentions were clear. 10 behind the ball with 2 low blocks and look to counter attack where possible. The challenge became even more difficult when on 17 minutes they had a man sent off for an inexplicable stamp on Micky Hyem.

From here it was just a matter of patience as we looked to move the ball and displace the home sides back 5.  We created a few half chances, and Brown again should have scored , blazing over from 6 yards after great work from Diaper.

The breakthrough when it came was typical us. We moved the ball well, found Unwin in between the lines who lifted a superb cute pass to LUKE BROWN who made no mistake, lashing home from 10 yards in off the left post.

Hyem , Hall and Diaper all had efforts on goal as we camped in the Thetford half for long periods.

At half time we talked about moving the ball quickly and how we could link in and around  their box to penetrate and move the back 5 around.

We did this at times really well. It’s always difficult when teams put everyone behind the ball , and to a degree we would have had more space playing against 11 as you can draw the opposition out when they press and from counters.

CHARLIE BOWEN Continued his scoring form on 60 as he bundled home following a good stop from the home keeper.

We did become very sloppy after the second as the game was virtually over. We let complacency come into our game as 2 or 3 started getting involved in verbal battles with their opposing number.

However, for the last 15 minutes we corrected the mindset and approach and started to move the ball with intent again. Hyem played an excellent ball to lively sub Yambasu who was upended by the Gk for a stick on pen. HYEM smashed home from 12 yards low to the keepers right.

And the last word on 85 minutes saw LUKE BROWN double his tally after excellent link up between Hall and Yambasu allowing Luke to drill home from 15 yards.

Credit to the group who have won 10 league games in a row, in a league where most clubs can take points off you if you’re not at your best.

We break from league action to travel to Mildenhall on Tuesday for the league cup semi final. We have had 4 tight games already against ‘Hall’ this season with 2 wins ,a draw and a vase defeat thus far.

It should be another tough game against a team bang in form. Like ourselves.

See you at the far post.
