Godmanchester Rovers 4 Hadleigh United 0

Goals: Diaper 2, Yambasu, McDonald
Att: 87

A welcome return home.

Thanks to some great work behind the scenes we finally managed record our first home fixture in over 2 months.

On the back of 5 straight away victories, we went into Saturday’s game brimming with confidence having added consistency to our performances over a prolonged period.

The team remained unchanged after inflicting the second defeat on champions Norwich United the previous weekend.

With the wind at our backs on a heavy surface we nearly got the perfect start after 20 seconds. McDonalds long throw was flicked on and fell to Taylor Parr who from 8 yards and with the goal at his mercy contrived to scuff his shot and give a visiting defender the opportunity to clear off his own line when scoring seemed easier.

He did however make amends on 8 minutes by calmly cutting back a cross for AUSTEN DIAPER to bundle home a deserved opener.

Spark, Yambasu and Hyem all had efforts repelled as we camped in the visitors half. Only a rare break away saw Niall called into action as he made a breath taking fingertip save to push a drive onto the post and out for a corner.

With our dominance we continued to knock on the door, and received our just desserts when Hyem cleverly released JOHN YAMBASU for our second and his first goal in Goddy colours.

We came out for the second period and despite playing into the wind we picked up where we left off, creating opportunities and causing problems with our set plays.

The clinching goal was worth waiting for on the hour, when Diaper found the overlapping LEWIS McDONALD who cut inside the area before finding the top left corner of the net , with what is becoming a trademark spectacular strike.

And 5 minutes later Yambasu found DIAPER with a clever centre to put gloss on the performance making it 4-0.

From here we saw out the game and looked to add to the score as Diaper, Spark, and Yambasu all had efforts on the United goal.

It was a dominant performance on a tricky pitch and one that leads us into the coming weeks with increased confidence and optimism.

See you at the far post.
