The football club are delighted to announce the appointment of Adie Cambridge as the new First Team Manager for the 2016/17 season.

Adie joins the Rovers after a successful playing career which spanned over two decades with clubs including Histon (at Conference Level), Cambridge City and Royston Town. In recent years Adie has been instrumental in the success of Royston Town Reserves in guiding the team to finish as winners of the Surburban Premier Division in the 2015/16 season and developing a number of youth players into senior football.

Club Chairman Karly Hurst spoke of the appointment to say “I have personally known Adie for a number of years having played against him when we were younger and I have watched closely his success throughout his career as a manager” Hurst added “We received some excellent applications however we felt that Adie’s approach, his local experience and drive to succeed at our football club and take us to the next level was a key factor in his appointment”

Cambridge, 41, takes the reins at Goddy Rovers with a successful squad of talented footballers who finished runners up to Norwich United last season, just missing out on promotion to step 4 by four points in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

Adie Cambridge also spoke of his appointment today “I am delighted to be here at Godmanchester Rovers as the First Team Manager, I am really looking forward to working with the players and staff here build on the success and progress that has already begun.”

Cambridge added “I have had two fantastic years managing Royston Town Reserves and would like to go on record in thanking the board, staff and players in giving me the opportunity to begin my managerial career, I have made many friends both on and off the field and will be forever grateful to them. This is a new start for me and one that I am very keen to getting on with. I will be meeting up with the current squad of players as soon as possible and start to get ready for the beginning of the season”

The Rovers have an excellent pre-season line up confirmed with matches against Yaxley, AFC Sudbury, Barton Rovers, Skegness Town and Soham Town Rangers. The opening fixture of the 2016/17 season will be played on the slightly earlier date of Saturday 30th July 2016.
The football club would like to place on record a vote of thanks to those who applied for the position and to Matt Clements for his leadership in the last campaign.
